Interesting follow-up

An intriguing follow up to the excellent original. Popeye Doyle is the classic "fish out of water" as his obsessive hunt for Charnier takes him to the seedy streets of Marseilles. A slower and more ponderous movie than the first, which in some ways is a good thing. The movie really gives a dark insight into the horrors of drug addiction.
Hackman again gives a brilliant performance as Doyle.

Even grittier than the previous film, particularly with the emphasis on the effects of drug abuse. Very abrupt ending too...
