4.5 out of 10 Memorable
Liam from Kilkenny, 19 Mar 2010
I've seen this three times, the latest because my partner hadn't and wanted to see it (and the sequel: Manon de Source). We both loved it and I'd see it again. The mood created in backward, rural France carries one along gently and the small-mindedness of neighbours rings so true, especially here in rural Ireland! As a study of how gombeenism can defeat decency it could be Ireland in 2010! A timeless study of an old theme with a twist. Don't miss it; and if you do see it, make sure you see Manon

5 out of 10 Brilliant
Nick from Dublin, 20 Feb 2011
A simple movie, beautifully acted and shot. The sub titles actually add to it , I think. The acting is brilliant and you can empathise with all the characters. I will be buying my own copy of this film.

Takes a little while to get into but well worth it. And part 2 ('Manon des Sources') is even better.
